I think most of us not sure about this customs,
here I would like to share with all of you...
中秋节吃芋头是源远流长的一项习俗，但各地人们在中秋节吃芋头的含义却各有不同。古时，中秋节对农民来说是个重大的节日。北方农村每年只有秋季收获一次稻黍。一到秋收季节，看着一年艰苦劳动的收获，以为是土地神和自己的祖先暗中保佑自己。而且八月十五是土地神的生日，要好好的热闹一番，在八月十五祭神时，有一款贡品是芋头。将整个芋头煮熟装在碟上，或是米粉芋（加入芋头煮成的米粉汤）装在大碗里摆在供桌上，以此来祭谢土地神。
现在这种谢神仪式已不复存在了，但是中秋节吃芋头的习俗却保留了下来。 南方人在中秋节祭月时使用芋头，据说是纪念元末汉人杀鞑子（指元朝统治者鞑靼人）的历史故事，当初汉人起义，推翻元朝蒙古人暴虐的统治，是在八月十五夜晚，汉人在杀鞑子起义后，便以其头祭月。后来当然不可能在每年中秋节用人头祭月，便用芋头来代替，至今还有些地方在中秋节吃芋头时把剥芋皮叫做“剥鬼皮” 。

Eat yam during mid autumn festivals is called “剥鬼皮” , so I can’t 剥皮 if I eat during 7th month festivals lor ……… haha... just kidding, anyway thanks for sharing. :)

Aiyoooo....peel the yam is peel the ghost's head! I like to eat this small little yam so always eat a lot during this festival....hope i dun think of the ghost head when i eat the yam this yr....hehehe
